Mike Vardy directs this big screen adaptation of the adventures of working class hero Joe Lampton (Kenneth Haigh). When Joe gets to know pharmaceutical tycoon Lord Ackerman (Harry Andrews) and his wife Alex (Nanette Newman), it results in an unexpected job offer. However, things aren't all plain sailing. While managing one of Ackerman's companies, Joe discovers that a former member of staff committed suicide for his part in producing a drug that proved harmful to women. How will Ackerman react when Joe tells him the news?
In the past, sport, particularly football, has been defined as a male domain. Women's interest stereotypically ranges from gentle tolerance to active resistance. But increasingly, women are proudly identifying themselves as supporters of their teams, and have become highly desirable audiences for sport organizations and merchandisers. Football provides a unique site at which to examine the complex interplay between three theoretical areas: identity formation and maintenance, commercialization of cultural practices, and gender hegemony. This book explores how women experience their fandom, and what barriers exist for the female fan.

A whimsical journey through gardens and life by a sociologist. "It is spring in Melbourne and I am not there. I had a taste for it before I left for India. The japonica was flowering and there was a sprinkling of blossom on the plum trees and wild prunus. I wonder if the lilac has bloomed and finished. It is now nearly the end of September. Did the poppies bloom? And the wild azalea? Have the forget-me-nots and the borage covered the garden? Have the roses at Ivanhoe survived the lack of care? What about the persimmon? Are the hollyhocks good this year?"

A journey into the past uncovers who the shadowy figure is that stands before me. Why is he here? And who was I back then? Edith was just an ordinary girl. She never felt that she had any special qualities about her as she grew up. She was an only child and felt very alone, and was only at her happiest on Sunday when she wore her little yellow dress. Love was something that had always been in her heart and she was a kind and caring girl, but nobody had ever shown her any, except for her teacher, Mrs Forbes. That was all about to change when a chance meeting with a painter in England and an offer to assist a frail Sergeant Major in a hospital in France came her way. Their fated lives became joined together and among all the pain and horror of the war, two very different types of love emerge. "This story tells the tale of their relationships, their love for one another, and a bond that lives on in the past and present."
A children's book about a little bird who falls from his nest, and is rescued, and in turn teaches us a lesson that no matter what happens to us, God is waiting, and watching over us, to help us back home.
Early Americans accommodated, adapted, and manipulated their
clothing to adjust to their physical and social environment. This
book focuses on the relationship of dress to the struggle of
indigenous and immigrant Americans to fill expected and unexpected
needs and express political ideologies and ethnic identity. In
doing so the contributors hope to prompt readers to reconsider the
place of dress in the interpretation of American culture. The
casual reader of this book of essays may be surprised to learn that
it has little to do with different styles of clothing or the
vagaries of fashion.
Principals navigate the dynamic complexities and subtleties of their schools every day. They promote, facilitate, and lead efforts to achieve both tangible and intangible results throughout the school community. They fulfill a role that includes counseling, budgeting, inspiring, teaching, learning, disciplining, evaluating, celebrating, consoling, and a million other critical functions. As the principalship has evolved and grown, so have the expectations of it. With that in mind, ASCD developed the Principal Leadership Development Framework (PLDF). The PLDF establishes a clear and concise definition of leadership and includes clear targets that support the ongoing growth and development of leaders. Using the Framework, principals will learn to capitalize on their leadership roles: Principal as Visionary. Principal as Instructional Leade. Principal as Engager. Principal as Learner and Collaborator. The PLDF also offers 17 criteria of effective practice that allow leaders to focus on behaviors that have the greatest direct effect on the culture and status of learning and teaching. Coupled with the PLDF are tools for self-reflection that help principals identify and strengthen their reflective habits. Whether you want to develop your own capacities or support the development of a group of principals, assistant principals, or aspiring principals, The Principal Influence can help channel your efforts in ways that promote successful teaching and student learning.
Rather than the 25 to 30 chapters found in most environmental science textbooks, the authors have limited "Principles of Environmental Science: Inquiry and Applications" to 15 chapters - perfect for the one-semester, non-majors environmental science course. True to its title, the goal of this concise text is to provide an up-to-date, introductory view of essential themes in environmental science along with offering students numerous opportunities to practice scientific thinking and active learning.
"Environmental Science: A Global Concern," Eleventh Edition, is a comprehensive presentation of environmental science which emphasizes critical thinking, environmental responsibility, and global awareness. This book is intended for use in a one- or two-semester course in environmental science, human ecology, or environmental studies at the college or advanced placement high school level. We have updated data throughout the chapters in this book. Information and examples presented are the most recent available as of the mid-2009. You will find an abundance of specific numbers and current events - details that are difficult to keep up-to-date in a textbook. The goal of this book is to provide an up-to-date, introductory global view of essential themes in environmental science along with emphasis on details and case studies that will help students process and retain the general principles. The authors make the text readable and accessible without technical jargon or a presumption of prior science background. AP Correlation Visit the Online Learning Center Request an Examination Copy
